This letter was originally published in the Hello Neighbor Network newsletter. My name is Dustin Butoryak and I am the National Membership Coordinator for the Hello Neighbor Network. I have the privilege of working directly with the amazing leaders and welcomers that make up our Network (over 60 Members across 26 states).

Dustin Butoryak, National Membership Coordinator, greeting attendees at the 2024 Network Convening.

Tenacity, integrity and kindness always. These are the core values I strive to live by every day, in every area of my life. My work with the Network plays a big part in this — the leaders in our community are inspirationally tenacious. They bring honesty and integrity into all of our interactions, and the kindness they show to me and to each other regularly restores my faith in humanity.

The fundamental generosity on display in the Network is incredible; leaders sharing wisdom, resources and encouragement with each other from all corners of the U.S. I think of founding member Kathie O’ Callaghan (Hearts & Homes for Refugees) connecting Dr. Suzy Ismail (Cornerstone) to our 2021 Fellowship; now, 2 years later, our relationship with Dr. Ismail has bloomed into an ongoing, impactful collaboration. Dr. Ismail has now shared her expertise around trauma-informed care, secondary trauma and other mental health topics with multiple Fellowship cohorts and at multiple Network Convenings.

But my absolute favorite time of the year is when we open the floodgates to search for new leaders to join our Network.

Interviews with prospective Fellowship applicants never fail to amaze me. I distinctly remember meeting Krystsina Shchelkunova (Slavic Refugee and Immigrant Services Organization) early in 2022; seeing her participate in one of our monthly discussion hours, I was blown away by her expertise and dedication despite establishing her organization less than a year prior. We’re now lucky to have her enrolled in our 2023 Fellowship cohort!

Applications are currently open for our 2024 Fellowship. If you lead your own grassroots organization supporting a migrant population or know a leader who would benefit from the community and resources in the Network, I want to hear from you!

To learn more about our Fellowship program and to apply, click here.

I’m deeply grateful for the amazing community I get to be a part of working with the Network, and I’m grateful that you, reader, are a part of our community as well.

Together,
Dustin Butoryak
National Membership Coordinator

Tenacity, Integrity, Kindness Always: Working With the Network was originally published in Hello Neighbor Network on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.
